3T Designs/Cervelo Handlebars/Bicycle Recall

3T Designs and Cervelo, along with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, have issued a safety recall on Cervelo bicycles that are equipped with 3T Designs' Aura Pro Aero Handlebars (photo, click to enlarge).Click to enlarge!

The recall issue
3T/Cervelo have determined that the bolts for the clamps attaching the extension bars to the basebars may fail. This can cause the extension to become detached during use, posing a fall hazard to the rider. One such incident has been reported to 3T, with minor injury to the rider.

How to identify the recalled handlebars (see illustration below)
1. The affected bars have armrest supports that have three width positions.
2. These aero bars come with ski-bend type extensions.
3. The armrest pads come with comfort pads which are bigger and do NOT have an embossed 3T logo (see below).

How to identify the recalled aero bars.

Only the 2013 Cervelo P3 with Shimano Ultegra components (below, left) and the P5 Three with SRAM Red components (below, right) were equipped with these 3T Designs aero bars. And, these bars were custom Cervelo editions. The bikes were sold in bicycle shops from September, 2012 to January, 2013. Note that standard 3T Aura Pro aero bars are NOT part of this recall.
